Estudio Vernís was established in the mountains of Alicante, Spain, in 2019 by Alejandra and Coke. It is a workshop that celebrates craft and the unexpectedness of wood-firing with a self-built kiln in their backyard. Every piece is made individually, by hand, in their studio in Castell de Castells and meant to be timeless, lasting, and ever-evolving honest ceramic piece. Alejandra and Coke aspire to a world where every object contains the traces of the hands that made it. That is why their fingerprints are in every step of the process, from the pinching of the clay, to the formulation of the glazes or the foraging of the wood, leaving a mark in a lasting and natural material, using primitive techniques and local resources.
Bolín is pinched from a small ball of clay until it reaches its perfect shape. I personally love its textured surface, evidence of the pinching technique used in its creation. The base, in particular, perfectly molds to the shape of my fingertips for an embracing kind of hold. Perfect for small snacks, even for drinks (I could definitely see myself sipping my pourover coffee from the Bolín), olives, salt and other spices, the kids' treasures, or your own treasures. You may share its contents or keep them all to yourself. It is stoneware coated with ash glaze and we selected it for you in one shade, the darkest and most mysterious in our eyes. Both the stoneware and the glazes that Estudio Vernís use are dishwasher friendly.
Since each piece is individually handmade, measurements, form, and glaze are for guidance only. Each piece is unique and can differ in size and shape, and the shade and intrinsic pattern of the glaze can vary from piece to piece as a result of the wood-firing process. This piece will age alongside you and its look will be result of all of its experiences.
