baker's brush in birch wood
Iris Hantverk was born in the 1900s in Stockholm as a small brush manufacturer. Now they are 17 employees and the owners, Sara and Richard, are continuing the tradition. Their core remains the brush binding manufacturing at Sandsborgsvägen, Enskede – where 6 visually impaired crafts-folk from different cultures make brushes according to an old Swedish tradition. They also work with visually impaired craftsmen in Estonia.
The baker's brush is made of birch and horse hair. It can be used to spread the flour evenly over the baking board, to remove excess flour from the bread and clean the work surface. Since horsehair is heat resistant, it can also be used in the oven. This nicely complements the dough scraper for a cool and useful (sourdough) baking set.
