botanical crayons
Copito is a project by Clara Infante, a natural dyer, and multidisciplinary maker and artist based near Barcelona, Spain. Her explorations with plant and earth pigments are often manifested through her sculptural wax creations.
These non-toxic crayons are made in the Garraf region of Spain using beeswax, carnauba wax, soy wax and natural plant and mineral pigments. They are made in small batches and are individually carved by hand. Each crayon is unique in its color and shape. They come with a roll-up canvas case and a small card explaining which plants and minerals were used to produce their color. There are 10 crayons in a set.
The pigments used in the crayons are light-sensitive and will change over time. Please store them in a cool and dark place when not using them to help preserve their color depth. The botanical crayons do break (as all crayons do!), and you can melt them down using a “Bain Marie", then pour them into a silicone mold.
Clara sources the beeswax locally from a beekeeper, the carnauba wax is farmed ethically in Brazil as are the pigments and soy wax she purchases from a EU producer. About 30-40% of the pigment used is foraged and processed by her somewhere between the Pyrenees and her home in the Garraf. Some colors are very time- and labor-intensive to create so she purchases natural plant pigments from producers in the south of France.
