The nine rules of hiking, or the "mountain code" ("fjellvettreglerne" in Norwegian), summarize a basic reflection: showing respect for nature and its strength. The rule emphasizing a well thought-through choice of equipment and, implicitly, all the big and small things we pack along for trips, is key to showing respect.

I would so venture to add that the code should include a tenth rule, and that is to leave no trace behind. We have put together a small collection of essentials for camping trips that give you freedom and promote self-love while not compromising on environmental footprint.
